New Skirt

Here is the skirt a gave a sneak peak to yesterday. I on a whim wanted to recreate a skirt I saw at Urban Outfitters last week, without a pattern. I decided to wear it to work, to see how I really felt about it. It is tough making your own clothing, I am not sure I would have bought a skirt like this. But I guess it is all about the creative process. I know now I can make a skirt if I want one, I will just need to put a little more time and effort into picking out fabric. Everything in my wardrobe either black or goes with black. So this fabric is quite a departure for me.
Details:

The applique matches the design in the fabric and the buttons are just there for flare. I feel now I have learned enough to attempt this again. With a few more modification I might have a workable pattern, of which I can create more skirts. Wearing your creations is so different for me, instead of just giving them away I am showing the world I have made. That gives a funny feeling, again with the putting my stuff out there. Why do I find it so hard to be proud of my creations?
self portrait tuesday

Yet another Tuesday, and the debut of my skirt I made last week. I have been a busy bee, plus I need something new to where to sushi with my husband last week. So why not make a skirt? More details on the skirt in tomorrow's post. Maybe I should of gotten a pedicure before posting a picture of my scandal clad feet. But why not revel the real me, chipped polish and all. Isn't that what self portrait day is all about, a honest look into your life? Speaking of honest here a look at my morning:

Short and Sweet

Here is another little zippered bag I made over the weekend. The fabric is one of my favorites. I have so little of it left I am trying to stretch it out over as many projects as I can. This one is lined with white fabric and clear vinyl. This way the make-up spills will not ruin the fabric. I was tough to line up the vinyl and make it lay flat, since it can't really be ironed. And I think the pouch will look better once it is filled up with some m.a.c., another obsession of mine.
I am still one my sewing kick, I am getting ready to start my first quilt and work on my pink lemonade apron. I love my sewing machine.
In other news Daniel is traveling for the company. I don't know which was worse news: "Honey I will gone for 12 days" or "I am taking the digital camera." Hopefully I can make due without him, oh ya and borrow the camera from work. Does anyone have any recommendations for "must sees" in Dulles and surrounding areas. I know he has his heart set on an Orioles game.
Cosmetic Bag
I was looking for a little something to sew up for my sisters birthday, which is next week. When I happen upon Karen's blog, and found the awesome tutorial she has for sale on Baked Ideas. This tutorial is awesome, and the finished product is pretty great too. Want to see pictures?

Gotta love the camo. Now if only there were more hours in the day. Go visit Red Current for great links to bag tutorials, she always has the goods.
self portrait tuesday

I post so few pictures of myself, so I decided to join in the weekly fun. Sure each week it won't just be pictures of me in my sunglasses, I thought I could use this opportunity to post more pictures of the projects that I make for myself. I feel slightly the same way about posting pictures of myself as I do as I send my crafts out in to the world. But as a wise commenter mentioned, people will criticize anything. And that shouldn't stop me from sharing the thing that make up who I am, crafts or not. I choose to post in the very public realm that is the internet, and be cause of that have made some great friends. Don't you just love my old school white fan in the background, adorned with my origami crane.
