...every girl goes through a photography phase, you know, horses... taking pictures of your feet...

I hate starting out posts with, "sorry I haven't blogged in a while." Over a month to be exact. But I haven't been making time for it lately. I would like to think in the age of rss feeds that people are no longer clicking on your blog daily wondering where the heck you are. Instead I would like to think of myself as more of a pleasant surprise that pops up on their reader from time to time. But I will admit I have received more that a few where are you, are you ok emails.  I enjoy this space, stay with me.

So, sorry, I will try to be around more? Forgive me? Sure you do.

So socks, my constant companion. These socks took me a long while. Looks like I started them back in September or October. These sat around in the back burner, while I was working on other things. They traveled around in my purse for months. It isn't surprising that a project on 2mm needles takes a few months when you only knit on them at lunch.

Specs

Yarn: Yarn Pirate in Rosie

Time: oh my, started in September- March 07

Needles: started with 2mm inox circ, but the joins made me crazy, so I switched to a 24 inch 2mm addi. A little shorter than I normally use, but I liked it.

Pattern: cast on some stitches, toe up, knit, short row heel, knit some more, bind off. exact numbers I can't recall.

So at this point what else can I say about socks. I think that I have said all I can.  So instead help me out. I want to become a better baker. I love cupcakes but my last 3 attempts have failed. I have tried the magnolia cupcakes, the vanilla vegan ones form the vegan cupcake book, and the Amy Sedaris ones. All  had some issues. I am ready to go back to box baking. So give me you baking tips and favorite cupcake recipes.

Oh, and I recently got a small camera to carry around in my purse. To capture those random things I see each day. So if you like you can follow along on flickr.

See you sooner rather than later, I hope!

Lovely socks! Your heels are so nice... I think I'm going to use your method for my next pair. (Yes, I'm late joining that bandwagon).

Glad to have you back! The socks are great - you have the best SR heels! (and now I do to with your tutorial!) Cupcakes - hmmm - there is a book called "Cupcakes" by Elinor Klivans - it has some great ones in there....

Love the socks. How do you get them to fit so well?
I have made many pairs and I am never happy with the fit. They are too baggy. When I measure and knit a swatch, it calculates out to much larger than I need. Any tips?

love the socks! the colors turned out just perfect on them. no pooling at all.

i have to say that i'm still surprised at how many people just click through to my blog and don't use RSS. now that i have tracking on my RSS, i have come to realize that the numbers don't add up! more than 70% of my readers are people who just come the site.

Your title quote is driving me crazy, because I recognize it, but I don't know where from. Anyway, yes, a nice surprise to see a new post pop up, and lovely, lovely socks.

Those socks are quite lovely. I know exactly how long "lunch only" sock knitting takes but it's such a little treasure during my day.

I wish I had a cupcake tip but there are so many variables in baking.

I love that colorway! Bummer about the disappointing cupcakes. The Magnolia ones are my favorite (not as good when I bake them, as opposed to getting them at the actual bakery, however, but still). I hope you find a recipe that works for you and that will give you the yummy cupcakes you're looking for!

Oh, how is that vegan cookbook. I'm dying to know. Yes, we can talk baking, let's!

Hey Joelene,
I was dissapointed in the magnolia recipe when I made it, but I really liked the recipe in "Cupcakes" which I saw that someone referenced above. Try that, and the gingerbread cupcakes in that book are to die for!!!

Those socks are truly tasty!

I haven't had good luck with the Magnolia cookbooks either, and I am still searching for the perfect recipe. But I've gotten quite tasty results from The Joy of Cooking (the "controversial" '97 edition)--both the golden cake and devil's food make good cupcakes.

Oh yeah, and: nice socks! Love that yarn.

Yes, you were a lovely little surprise for me today in my Bloglines. =)

Your heels are always so incredible. I tried following your tutorial once, and I'm not sure what I did wrong...going to try again today. You've inspired me once again.

I have to say I've tried the Magnolia recipie for cupcakes and it turned out fine. Very sweet. My husband calls then "crack-cakes" because they're very addictive. They're very similar to the Billy recipie (except for the self-rising flour). I hate to say it, but I think the stand mixer is the trick. I have an ancient kitchenaid mixer, and it really makes the difference when making cakes and cookies. I would say start saving for the kitchenaid, it's a monster, but you will have it forever...mine is from my mom and it's over 20 years old! Good luck with your cupcakes!

I love your socks and want to know how do you get your short row heels so perfect. I am new to short row heels and have yet to come out with perfect no gap heels. Any pointers are graciously accepted.

I was wondering if you could tell me how you set your blog page up. I must be doing it wrong as I have not gotten very far with clicking on the blog icon at the bottom of your page.

Try these simple cup cakes, I made them for my daughter's B-day party!

2 1/8 cup flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
pinch salt
1 1/8 cup sugar

1/2 cup canola oil
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 cup milk
1 tablespoon cider vinegar

Assemble the dry and wet ingredients separately. When ready with your whisk, pour the wet ingredients into the dry ones, whisk to mix (don't overwhisk), spoon out into prepared cupcake holders and slam into the oven!

Makes 12 cupcakes (regular sized)
350˚F oven, about 24 mins
