sweet cupcakes

Success. After my last post whining about my cupcake failures, I finally made some pretty perfect cupcakes. I was starting to wonder if I didn't have the baking gene. I tried a few different recipes, without success, but I think I found one that I love. Billy's Vanilla cupcake recipe from Marta Stewart. I frosted them with a buttercream, which had no butter in it at all. Next I want to try a swiss meringue.

What's not to love about cute little cakes, in frilly papers! I have even bought piping bags and tip, I think this has become an obsession. I can't wait to get back in the kitchen, in my new apron. Up next red velvet! Now if only I had a kitchenaid mixer....

Buy the mixer. Just go ahead and do it, even though they're expensive. I bought mine fifteen years ago when I really couldn't afford it and it was one of the best purchases I have ever made. And it's still going strong.

Well, I see someone has already alerted you that Chockylit (who created the red velvet recipe you linked to) has a new blog. It's the kind of blog where, if I look at it at work, I start to drool, then I make my coworkers come over and look, and then we all drool...
Oh, and I'm cheap, so I use a $20 hand held mixer. Works like a charm!
I can't believe that buttercream frosting is made with... Crisco?
