Sock Toes

151286616_a1f81b2986_m.jpg

I have gotten a few questions about my sock toes so I thought I would share my secret to shallow less pointy toes. I prefer to knit most of my socks toe up, for many reasons. Mostly because I can knit until I run out of yarn. I start with casting on 12 stitches al la the Turkish Cast On (24 stitches total). Then I increase as follows,  kfb* of the second stitch from the edge (increasing 4 stitches per round) until there are 48 st total. Then do the increase round every other round (so just knit a round in between the increase rounds) until you have the desired # of stitches. I usually go for about 60/64 stitches, but that depends on the yarn and pattern.

I think it is pretty easy to change a a cuff down sock pattern to toe up. By reading over the pattern a few times. It usually involves figuring out the stitch pattern, casting on your toe and going for it.  Such as my jaywalkers or even the Pomatomas socks. Hope this helps you!

A really update is coming soon.....

I saw your Turkish Cast On post recently and couldn't wait to try it because you make it look so simple. This past weekend I finally tried it and I love it! Thanks so much!

Thanks for the info. I just tried a new toe on a top down sock and it makes a very nice rounded toe too. I'll have to try your method on my next toe up pair.

So how does one work out the tue-up heel? I have been completely mystified by this.

I do the same thing for my toe-up socks to make them less pointy, although I use paired M1 loops instead of kfb for the increases.

I am jumping out of the woodwork to say hi! Your Turkish Cast On tutorial is so great...I must have looked at it twenty times when I started my first pair of toe-up socks. Which was last week.

Where did you find the stitch pattern for the Lemongrass socks? If you don't mind sharing (sorry if it's too pushy to ask!), I would love to knit a pair.

Wow- you just love saving me! I was trying to increase after doing a Turkish cast on and I just didn't have enough of a bar between the stitch just worked and the one on the left needle. But I think this just might be the trick to help me with my increasing. I think I need to study all the increases that are around.
