Pair of Picots

112901331_949888b011.jpg

Late last night after my entire day of napping I finally finished my socks. I was so close to finishing them, but didn't realize it because I didn't want to get off the couch to find my tape measure. A pretty quick knit, but I have found I think I lean more towards socks with a pattern all over, mostly because it holds my attention better. But then again, when you are not feeling well a mindless stockinette sock is good company.

I am starting to wonder how much longer my sock knitting binge will last. I am doubtful I can wear them in the summer, especially since I am moving to Virginia. (ok I will try not to mention the up coming move in ever single post, but it might be hard, it seems to be the only thing on my brain lately) Wool socks in the summer might not be comfortable, but then again I could stock up for winter. Yesterday Yahaira blogged about the elusive "Sock Candy" yarn from Blue Moon Fiber Arts. I would like to give that a try as a summer sock yarn, if I could find some. Maybe I could try fixation?

Yarn: 2 skien kpppm #P42338

Needles: Addi Turbo #1 32 inches

Pattern: My own, cuff from Anna's pattern Giotto

Time:  3/6/06- 3/14/06

Info:  My favorite socks elements put together in a freaken bright blue colorway. My much loved friend Koigu, a pretty picot cuff, short row heel and wedge toe.  Knit 2 at a time, magic loop style. I did learn for this that I do prefer toe up socks better, because I could have extended the leg at least another inch. The entire time I was afraid I was going to run out of yarn, but instead I was left with quite a bit of yarn left over. Toe up seem to solve that for me.  Plus no toe grafting, I hate grafting.

On to the next pair, which are a secret. Actually the next two pairs are hush hush. They will be posted on flickr though, until the recipients receive them. I am feelin so much better, thanks for the kind words. Rest and some soup helped. Daniel is off snowboarding again today so tonight I think I will cozy up with Vito, my knitting and I am going to rent Good Night and Good luck! I can't wait!

I don't think you will like fixation. I think the stretchiness will drive you up the wall, and I know how you feel about cotton. It's cheap tho...

Those socks are gorgeous - the little picot detail really stands out because the rest of the sock is plain.

Is their such thing as cotton knitting yarn for socks? Now that would be nice for summer - or at least if it's cool on a summer evening. I know nothing about knitting or it's equipment and supplies! So if I've made a major SnB faux fas re: cotton yarn, I apologise...lol.

Moving interstate/cross country - as hard as it is, can be invigorating - and a chance to reinvent.

My husband and I made a huge move interstate 5 years ago, and granted it was difficult in the beginning, it got easier and I honestly believe it was the best thing we've ever done.

We were sort of off-hand about the move too - Scott got the job offer, and I'm like, sure why not? - and 2 weeks later we packed up house and home and moved 3000km away.

good luck.

Joelene, you just gave me a great idea! I have some Koigu but have been a little timid about using it because I've heard about the "not much yardage in a skein" problem. Toe-up socks will be just PERFECT! Your blue Koigu socks are just beautiful and the lacey picot top is so pretty. :)

Handknit socks in Virginia? Depends on the season and where you are moving in Virginia. I'm in southwest VA in Blacksburg and wear my wool socks fall through spring. Also have some cotton/wool/nylon blend socks (Regia, GGH Marathon, and I think Fortissima...some knit picks dancing on the needles but not finished yet so I can't report how those feel) most of the year, except the very hottest days in July and August.

I haven't tried Fixation for socks yet, but it's closer to a sport weight (knit a sweater for my 2-yr old).

If you will be on the eastern side of the state (I grew up in the Tidewater area), probably only late fall to early spring. Heat + humidity does not make for good sock wearing weather...sandals!

Good luck with your move!
