Sometimes you gotta know when to fold em

It really suck when you realize you haven't been listening to that little voice in your head, telling you to stop knitting. But this time I choose to not listen.

I really like these socks, but they have some flaws. Flaws I choose to ignore, that now are problems. First let me say there is NO problems with the pattern or the yarn, both are amazing and dare I say perfect. My problem is they don't seem to be working together.  This is by far my favorite lace leaf pattern, they really are embossed. It is easy to knit, and moves very fast.

The yarn is Socks That Rock in Falcons Eye. Pretty much the greatest sock yarn around, it has become all the rage in blog land, for good reason. It rocks for one and it is super soft. I could keep ranting about this yarns greatness, but I'll stop. If you haven't felt it, order some.

I am just not feeling this yarn and the pattern together anymore. I love them both so much, but I want better things for each of them. I know I would be happier with some solid Embossed Leaves Socks and some plain socks made with the Socks that Rock yarn. I just wish it hadn't taken me so long to realize that. But I am thankful I wasn't knitting both socks at the same time.

Now on to the major problem, the cast on. These socks started with a tubular cast on, but one I was unfamiliar with. It involved slipping every other stitch for two rows. It looks nice, but it isn't stretchy enough. Maybe I slipped the stitches too tight or maybe it isn't the right cast on for my bigger feet. Either way I ignored the fact that it was tighter than it should be, and now they are almost uncomfortable.

So tonight these sock will be frogged and the lovely yarn and pattern will be set aside for another day. Maybe next time I will listen to that little voice a bit sooner.

That's too bad...the yarn is really nice - what about maybe the Wyvern socks - the color makes me think of dragons!

I hate it when that happens, but just think, you'll get to see that wonderful STR knit into another pattern. That's some great colorway!
Have you heard about the Blue Moon Fiberarts sock club? I just joined.........

Awwww, I think they look great. But you need to be happy with them. I wish I had some STR... *sigh*

sorry! that's a bummer, but at least now you know to try some other cast on for the next pair.

Rest in peace, Embossed STR sock. Better days ahead.

Oh no!That sock is so darn pretty! But again, what is the point of keeping it if it cuts of your circulation and you can't feel your toes.

Oh my gosh Joelene I was going to say "don't frog! don't frog!" until I read that the cast-on wasn't stretchy enough.

Unless your photos are very misleading, I TOTALLY LOVE this yarn with this leaf pattern! Everyone is different but I really love it. BUT, you've gotta frog back if the cuff is too tight. Sorry. :(

Listening is good. Sometimes patterns are obscured by traveling color, and vice versa. There'll be a next life for both, I think :).

I am making these socks now and have the same problem with the cast on. My feet may fall off for lack of blood flow. However, I am too headstrong and well into the sole of sock 2, so I will bear the pain, or give them to a friend with skinnier calves.

oh, i've been there, ignoring that voice. in fact, i did it this very week. i think they look lovely, but if you don't like them, frog them.

it's too bad it's not coming together for you - it's happened to me at least twice before....i have the same str yarn in falcon's eye, though haven't used it yet; i've been thinking of trying that pattern too - you really did a great job despite your unhappiness with it....

Taking apart a project has to be one of the toughest things to do.

Do you think that being a knitter makes us a little deaf to that voice? Because I didn't hear it until it was jumping up and down and screaming at me. I love the yarn and pattern, but I agree with your assessment - better separate than together. Good luck with the next project.

yup, you are my sock aunt! Shame to rip, but just think... you get to play with the yarn all over again! It is very pretty (sigh, I will have to try it one day).

Aah, so said they have to go, but if they don't fit what can you do? I really love how the color worked with the pattern.

I had the same problem with this sock pattern and even made it to the same point as you before deciding to frog. The cast on was much too tight to fit over my heel easily, and the pattern and the yarn (Lorna's Laces in the Vera colorway) was too busy for the pattern. I should have listened to that voice!

Nice socks...well done!

Yup, that's what I learned on a project once: that patterned yarns, lovely as they are, do not do patterned stitches, lovely as they are, very well! Guess it's a matter of two goods do not make a great! They fight each other, like siblings; best let each one shine on its own.

i had the same issues! check it out here: http://maitai113.blogspot.com/2006/10/more-help-please.html.

the yarn looked so pretty in the skein, but so, so ugly knitted up! i gave up on them, and if i use the yarn again, it'll be all stockinette!
