Ribby Goodness

So I still have a ton of little things to knit, and a bunch of non-christmas knitting sitting around too. What better to do than start yet another project right? Last night I was feeling awfully sick to my stomach, so as I was laying in bed I decided to play with my new sock yarn. No not the sock yarn I got for my father's socks, this giant lovely skein of Lana Grossa.

In a pretty olive green, blue, pink and orange colorway. The yarn is very nice and not splitty, I deemed it perfect for the Rib and Cable Socks, from Fall IK 2005.

Right now it is mostly ribs as I have only crosses one cable. I am moving alone kinda slow because my index finger on my left hand is really sore. When ever I am switching between a lot of knitting and purling while knitting continental my finger get sore. Maybe I need to do some strength training.

I decided I must learn how to cable without a cable needle. I am just a little confused on how do you determine which way you cable is crossing. But armed with grumperina's info I am going to figure it out tonight. It is one thing to  be using 2 tiny needle, but complete insanity to throw a 3rd cable needle into the mix.

As a final note I have decided to longer try to knit a pair of Jaywalkers. Last night I frogged my 6th an final attempt, I was even using the instructions to make the socks bigger. No matter how big I make the socks I can't get them over my heel. Last night the sock was large enough to fit around my calf but I still couldn't yank it over my heel. I guess these sock aren't for me, and that's ok. I have pretty ribs and cables to keep me warm.

Awwwww... no more Jaywalkers. Did you try maybe going up a needle size?

I just skimmed, but where is that info on cabling without a cable needle?

Oh oh oh OHhhhh, Joelene, you will love those cable and rib socks!! After getting through the beautiful cables, you will REALLY love the heel and toe - they're soooo easy! But be warned, the pattern seems to be written a little small (for me - I have huge feet I guess) so be sure you're using big enough needles.

The new socks look great, the yarn is very cheerful! Yes, I think 6 froggings is a good indication that it's time to try a different project :). Now if I could only learn that myself for grandma's latest sock pair!

Your yarn colorway seems like a great antidote to the grey skies of mid-December. As for your overworked fingers, the strength training idea is hysterical. I love the idea of knitting calisthenics done in a group. That would certainly garner some strange looks!
